The American Legal System and Holocaust Restitution – Holocaust Justice: The Battle for Restitution in America’s Courts, by Michael J. Bazyler
October 30, 2005 |
Dr. Manfred Gerstenfeld
Michael Bazyler notes that according to historians, the Germans stole assets valued at $230-$320 million in today's monies from the Jews in Europe. The renewed Holocaust restitution process since the end of the twentieth century has drawn major political and media interest in many countries. It has led to substantial payments to both Jews and non-Jews. Only part of these involve stolen assets and, despite their size, represent only small percentages of the overall amount plundered or even of what had already been paid out since the war. The process has also stimulated official research about Holocaust and post-Holocaust attitudes toward the Jews in more than twenty-five countries.
Hunting Nazi Criminals; Operation: Last Chance
October 2, 2005 |
Efraim Zuroff
Operation: Last Chance is not only an attempt to help achieve justice, but also part of the struggle for historical truth, and was designed to help promote Holocaust education and combat anti-Semitism. Its educational dimensions were designed to sensitize people to the history of the Holocaust and help them focus on the key historical issues relating to local complicity in Holocaust crimes and the implications thereof.
Abusing the Legacy of the Holocaust: The Role of NGOs in Exploiting Human Rights to Demonize Israel
October 28, 2004 |
Prof. Gerald M. Steinberg
In the wake of the Holocaust, as human rights norms have come to the fore, NGOs have become major actors in international politics in general and in the Arab-Israeli conflict in particular. These organizations and their leaders form an extremely powerful "NGO community" that has propelled the anti-Israeli agenda in international frameworks such as the UN Human Rights Commission and the 2001 UN Conference against Racism in Durban. Through their reports, press releases, and influence among academics and diplomats, these NGOs propagated false charges of "massacre" during the Israeli army's antiterror operation in Jenin (Defensive Shield) and misrepresent Israel's separation barrier as an "apartheid wall."
